Gettysburg College takes full advantage of the opportunities made available through our location, enabling students to balance small-town charm with big- campus resources.
Civil War Institute and Civil
War Era Studies
The Civil War Institute (CWI) and Civil War Era Studies (CWES) programs serve as the College’s living connections to history.
The CWI uses an interdisciplinary approach
to engage diverse audiences in dialogue about the Civil War era. It provides numerous educational and professional development opportunities for students through the CWI Fellows program and Brian C. Pohanka internship program. CWI Fellows engage public audiences on a diverse range of historical topics through the student-authored blog, The Gettysburg Compiler, and Pohanka interns work on the front lines of some of the nation’s leading public history sites.
The Civil War Era Studies program offers courses in all aspects of the Civil War era, and the minor program can be added to any student’s field of study.
