FALL FAMILY WEEKEND
Save-the-Date: Fall Family Weekend is October 25–27, 2019!
The University of Oregon’s Fall Family Weekend is hosted each fall to create opportunities for you to visit campus, reconnect with your student, and experience the Duck lifestyle. For our first-year families, Fall Family Weekend occurs at a crucial period in your student’s time at the University of Oregon as they begin to adjust to their new environment. To enhance your Fall Family Weekend experience, we have a few suggestions:

 Plan your travel in advance.
Lodging in Eugene/Springfield can fill up quickly. If you are traveling into Eugene from out of the area, we recommend booking your travel in advance. Travel Lane County can help you get started: eugenecascadescoast.org.
  Make a plan.
We suggest talking with your student ahead of time to make a game plan. There is a lot happening that weekend so setting priorities is key. It is important to identify your family’s “must do’s” whether that is attending a class at the Craft Center, working out in our world-class Student Recreation Center, or attending the Oregon vs. Washington State football game in our beautiful Autzen Stadium.
 Don’t fill every moment.
While it is important to have a game plan, we suggest leaving time for the unexpected. Your student will likely want to show you around campus, have a meal at their favorite new eatery, or head to Target for an impromptu shopping trip. Don’t be surprised if your student has homework (or plans with new friends) and leaves you to your own devices.
Expect some subtle (and maybe not so subtle) changes in your student.
Given your student’s newfound freedom and change of environment they are likely to seem a bit different. Some students may seem more confident as they have learned to take on new challenges. Others may be a bit
more emotional if they have been experiencing some homesickness. We encourage conversations about changes you observe while holding back judgement. This can be a great time to connect and learn more about their experiences here.
  Have fun!
Parent and Family Programs wants you to have a wonderful visit. Make sure you check out our website for registration information and schedule highlights: families.uoregon.edu. Ticketed events sell out quickly so we recommend checking our website often.
