UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY
success at the center of all we do, offering services to support students in achieving their academic and personal goals. As
a comprehensive research university, UMKC’s outstanding faculty serve as teachers and mentors, helping students develop as thinkers, collaborators, and doers. Our modern facilities, such as our Student Union, Student Success Center, Miller Nicholas Library, and on-campus residence halls and apartment complexes, facilitate opportunities for your student to have a vibrant campus life experience as they connect, learn, and graduate.
UMKC is uniquely positioned in the heart of Kansas City so that our students can take advantage of multiple internship, research, service learning, and volunteer opportunities. Still other students decide to dedicate a semester in a study abroad program or design their own experiences both on and off campus with nearly
300 UMKC student organizations that showcase the diversity of our campus and local community.
I invite you to come back to campus throughout the academic year and especially for Family Weekend, a campus tradition that takes place during the Fall Semester. The weekend’s festivities include time to reconnect with your student and opportunities to experience the diverse community that is UMKC. Lastly, we are in the process of creating
a new initiative entitled the UMKC Parent and Family Council. This Council strives to create a dynamic partnership between parents, family members, and the university community, working towards common goals of student learning, development, and success. For more information about this Council, please visit www.umkc.edu/parents.
Congratulations on beginning this great chapter of your student’s life. UMKC is truly the place for discovery, the place for achievement, and the place for people going places. We want the UMKC experience to be great for both you and your student! We are glad you are here, and are excited to welcome you and your student to the Roo family.
From our family to yours,
Mel Tyler
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
